Summer organization is key to enjoy the season. Summer means the days get longer, and the schedules get busier.
From ball games, cookouts, family reunions and time at the pool. It’s a season of running from one activity to the next, all to maximize our sunshine months.
And because your schedule is packed, it means you’re in and out of your house, and your house is likely to be a victim of chaos. But it doesn’t have to be.
I have 3 main tricks to easily manage your home during your busy summer schedule.
DROP ZONE
Every house has a common spot where miscellaneous items get dropped as you walk in the door. Mail, keys, technology, paperwork from kids activities, etc..
This is an area that quickly gets piled on, and is usually the first spot you get frustrated looking at each day.
Set a system in place to keep that corner of your world contained. This might look like a set of stacked bins to put your mail/bill items in, and another layer for other miscellaneous items.
Add a tech center to keep things charged and ready for the day. I like this acrylic sorter to keep the tablets set up and close to an outlet for easy charging.
Pro tip: don’t let the junk mail come into the house with you. It is easy for that mail bin to get overloaded really fast. So before it even hits the bin, toss unnecessary items in the recycling bin or trash before you even hit the door.
Getting your drop zone set up will help you with more than just your summer organization, but how you manage your busy schedule year-round.

SUMMER ESSENTIALS
Make a last-minute pool trip easier on yourself!
Create a spot in your linen closet for your summer essentials. Swim towels, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. all in one spot.
Roll your towels to be able to grab them quickly (and save some space). Then add a bin of the lotions and potions necessary for an outside activity.
Same goes in the kids closets. I have this small bin in my kids closets with their swimsuits and goggles set together. That way you don’t have to go on the hunt for their swim gear when in a hurry.
Having your summer essentials organized will help keep your summer enjoyable.
GARAGE SYSTEMS
Another spot that usually sees a lot of activity in the summer is the garage.
Bag chairs, gardening supplies, sporting goods and more are stored in the garage, and the summer is their time to shine.
All of these things take up space, but don’t need to take up so much space that your car is left outside.
Garage track systems are a simple and inexpensive way to get your stuff organized and out of the way.
We have found the Rubbermaid Fast Track System really user friendly in providing flexible storage options.
Not only does it give you full customization of how you store your items, it is also really simple to install and use.
This system has a variety of accessories that allow you to simply organize your gear. Rakes, shovels and other yard tools, along with shelving to store bulkier items like coolers and sporting goods.
And getting your items off the floor and on the wall makes cleaning up your garage a breeze.
Not to mention be able to run home, grab those bag chairs and cooler and head to that last minute BBQ without the stress.
Summer is for making memories but not at the expense of making extra messes at home. Take control of these 3 areas, and enjoy your organized summer!
