Ditch the party store. The easy button. That’s what the party store is to me. No matter how “busy” I am when planning an event, I try to avoid that place as much as possible.
IT’S NOT WORTH THE PRICE
Let’s be real, that place is expensive! Not only that, a lot of the decor items they offer for a theme are usually random party favors.
Party shops are basically the “Bed in a bag” option of party planning.
There’s at least one element that you really don’t want/need and yet you’re limited to what that theme offers.
HOW TO THINK BEYOND PRE-PACKAGED DECOR
My suggestion: think beyond pre-packaged decor.
It feels much more personal when you can make your event come alive with a variety of style elements.
I would compare this to my personal style. I’m not one to like a matching earring and necklace set. It just feels commercial to me.
So I will mix bold earrings with a dainty necklace or a statement necklace with little studs.
Same thing with your event space. A simple plain color disposable tablecloth can be brought to life with some eye-catching centerpieces.
MY DAUGHTER’S GOLDEN BIRTHDAY
For example, when my daughter’s golden birthday was coming up, she wanted a spa/makeover theme with her girlfriends.
Trust me, in the theme party aisles of Party City, you won’t find a “spa” section amongst the sea of character parties. So a gold sequin tablecloth with pink headbands and glam bags with nail polish and bath bombs made for a cute centerpiece as well as party favors for her guests.
With some added flair to some basic pink cupcakes, and macaroons on some pretty trays and those girls thought their spa night was a big deal. All without a single trip to the party store.
You don’t have to be Martha Stewart to curate some event decor. So drop that easy button, the pricey pre-packaged items, and make your next event a meaningful and memorable one!
